Of course, this is nothing new for savvy automotive enthusiasts. What is new is the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 navigation system. Unlike others, this bit of technology actually thinks ahead too.

Thus far, BMW M Performance has managed to give us the BMW M550d xDrive, BMW X5 M50d, and BMW X6 M50d. Each vehicle has been built on an existing new BMW model, then infused with a diesel powertrain, as well as performance enhancing tweaks. And now, the BMW M Performance is looking to bring its high level of expertise to a petrol-powered vehicle too.

The ActiveE is one important vehicle for BMW. In case you didn't know, the Bavarian automaker is testing its electric vehicle platform with the ActiveE by allowing a group of testers, officially dubbed 'Electronauts', to lease it for a limited time. The information from this test will be passed along, and then used in the development of the new BMW i Series.
