TECHNOLOGY IN THE 2022 X5 VS 2022 MDX

When looking at luxury SUVs, one of the first things you’ll want to consider will likely be the available technologies. Luckily, you’ll be pleased with either the BMW X5 or Acura MDX.

The X5 comes standard with BMW’s iDrive 7.0 infotainment system via a 12.3-inch central information display that’s controlled by an iDrive touchpad Controller or voice command. You’ll also have 8 freely programmable bookmarks to make accessing your main systems that much easier. While the infotainment system of the MDX is similar, it doesn’t have a bookmarking feature.

When it comes to driver-assistance features, both the X5 and MDX offer plenty of systems, including Collision Warning systems and Lane Departure Warning.

BMW X5 VS ACURA MDX: INTERIOR

2022 BMW X5 black interior When you step into the cabin of the X5 or MDX, you’ll be surrounded by high-quality, soft-touch materials that emanate luxury. Although, the BMW takes it to another level with the standard Fineline Stripe Brown High-Gloss Wood trim. A wood trim is available in the MDX as well, but only on the highest trim level.

Additionally, each SUV has seating for up to seven people, so either option is perfect if you plan on utilizing them as family vehicles.

However, the BMW provides more room for riders in the front row—40.8 inches of headroom, to be exact. In the Acura, you’ll have just 38.5 inches of headroom in the front row.

POWER & PERFORMANCE IN THE X5 VS MDX

2022 BMW X5 PerformanceWith several powerful engines for you to choose from, we have to give this category to the BMW X5. From a standard 335-horsepower 3.0L turbocharged 6-cylinder all the way up to a 4.4L turbocharged V8 that puts out 617 horsepower, you’ll never feel less than powerful driving the X5.

The 2022 BMW X5 even has an available hybrid powertrain comprised of a 389-horsepower 3.0L 6-cylinder engine with an electric motor.

Unfortunately, the MDX only offers one engine option: a 3.5L V6. It also puts out just 290 horsepower—much less than the base engine in the X5.

Furthermore, the X5 is more fuel-efficient, achieving an EPA-estimated 21 city and 26 highway MPG with the standard configuration.1 The MDX, meanwhile, achieves an EPA-estimated 19 city and 26 highway MPG. If your commutes are primarily in stop-and-go city traffic, it could be more beneficial to drive around in the BMW.

2022 BMW X5 VS ACURA MDX: THE RESULTS

Although the BMW X5 and Acura MDX are great luxury SUVS, we think the X5 has more to offer when it comes to standard technology features, interior space, and engine options.
