2018 BMW X5 vs Audi Q5
Whether an SUV comes in compact or midsize form, it should still have lots of space to keep every passenger comfortable. The X5 and Q5 certainly have lots of space, along with tons of features, which one will be right for your commutes around Atlantic City, Egg Harbor, and Vineland?
To help answer that question, our team at BMW of Atlantic City created this 2018 BMW X5 vs. Audi Q5 comparison. Discover the specifications of each SUV below, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Interior Space & Amenities
The 2018 BMW X5 and 2018 Audi Q5 easily seat five among two rows. However, if you have a larger family or are the designated carpool driver, then you may prefer the X5. That’s because it has an optional third row, bringing the seating capacity up to seven.
Not only can the X5 seat more people, but it holds more cargo, as well. There’s 35.8 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seats. Fold the back row down, and the space expands to 76.7 cubic feet. Meanwhile, the Q5 has 26.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats, and 60.4 cubic feet when that row is folded down.
They both have plenty of amenities to help keep everyone nice and relaxed. For instance, the BMW X5 comes standard with heated and 14-way power-adjustable front seats. Available features include:
- Ventilated front seats
- Heated rear seats
- Heated steering wheel
The Audi Q5 offers ventilated front seats and a heating steering wheel, as well. Unlike in the X5, heated front seats don’t come standard, and heated rear seats aren’t available. Plus, it only offers 12-way power-adjustable front seats, so you may not get as comfortable as you could in the X5.
Whether you’re heading to work, the store, or vacation, you’ll want to stay connected and entertained for the whole drive. Luckily, you’ll find plenty of technologies in both the 2018 X5 and 2018 Q5.
For example, they both come standard with Bluetooth® technology, along with HD Radio™ for clearer reception on AM/FM stations. Plus, they each offer Apple CarPlay™ smartphone integration. Simply plug your phone into the vehicle’s USB port to have your favorite apps appear on the display screen. You can then listen to podcasts, pull up directions, or send text messages without messing around with your phone.
All the media options will display on a crisp and clear 10.2-inch touchscreen in the BMW X5. Furthermore, backseat passengers will love the available rear-seat entertainment system with two 9.2-inch screens. This way, they can watch movies in the back, while you simply focus on driving.
Meanwhile, the Audi Q5 will show its media options on a 7-inch display screen. Unfortunately, it doesn’t offer a rear-seat entertainment system in any of its trim levels.
The BMW X5 has four engine options, with the standard one being a 3.0L TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder that delivers 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. For maximum power, there’s the optional 4.4L TwinPower Turbo V8 that delivers 445 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque.
Unfortunately, the Audi Q5 only comes with a single engine option: a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. That engine produces just 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.
However, both vehicles are sure-footed and agile, handling corners well. Plus, they each offer impressive all-wheel drive systems: xDrive in the X5 and quattro® in the Q5. These systems distribute power evenly between the front and rear wheels to enhance handling and maintain traction on even the roughest road surfaces.
