The BMW X5 will make it exceptionally easy for you to stay on top of the recommended maintenance schedule as it comes equipped with a built-in maintenance monitor. The computer system of the X5 will keep close track of the condition of various parts to warn you when it is or may soon be time for maintenance.

You can check these updates through the iDrive Control Display behind your steering wheel. Simply select “Car”, then “Vehicle Status”, and finally “Service Schedule”. You will see one of these three symbols next to each item to let you know if it needs service:

• OK—You don’t need service just yet.
• Triangle—You’re going to need service soon, keep an eye on this system.
• Exclamation Point—This system is past due for service; schedule an appointment ASAP.

You can even use this system to help you keep track of each BMW service visit. From the “Service Schedule” menu, select “BMW Service”, then “Date:” to track the date of each service visit.

Regular X5 Maintenance

While you can depend on this system to help you keep track of the BMW X5 maintenance schedule, it can be help helpful to know when most major maintenance items are required on your own.

The most important piece of regular maintenance is the oil change. You should aim to get this changed around every 5,000 miles, though you may need to change it more frequently depending on how and where you drive.

When you come in for this service visit, you may also want to have a team member complete a brief inspection of your model. They can take a look at other parts that require frequent maintenance to ensure everything is still in good condition, such as:

• Brake pads
• Fluid levels
• Wiper blades

Additionally, a team member can change out the micro air filter to ensure you get excellent air quality inside your vehicle.

Driving in Severe Conditions

Time and travel will take a toll on the various parts inside your vehicle, which is why every driver needs to keep up with regular maintenance needs. However, if you drive in Severe Conditions, it’s ideal to get maintenance more often.

Your driving may count as severe if you fall into any of these categories:

• Frequent short trips of under five to 10 miles
• Driving in stop-and-go traffic in hot weather
• Driving over dusty roads
• Towing often
