The 2018 BMW X3 Is Revealed
In late June, BMW unveiled the all-new 2018 X3 at the company’s Spartanburg, SC plant during a ceremony to honor the plant’s 25th anniversary. The newest version of the Sports Activity Vehicle offers improved aerodynamics, enhanced comfort, and a striking design.
Thanks to the “three-dimensional” active kidney grille, roof spoiler and air curtains, the X3 is more aerodynamic than ever. BMW has enhanced the vehicle’s rugged good looks by extending the wheelbase by 2.2 inches, elongating the hood and balancing its proportions, emphasizing a 50:50 weight distribution between the front and rear axles. In a welcome addition, the new X3 will be the first BMW Sports Activity Vehicle in the U.S. to feature a factory-installed trailer hitch.
The base model X3 xDrive30i features a TwinPower Turbo 2.0-liter 4-cylinder inline engine that produces 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, delivering a -60 mph time of 6.0 seconds.
The flagship X3 M40i marks the first time an M Performance auto has been offered in this model series. Powered by a 3.0-liter M Performance TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine that generates 355 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, the vehicle also offers M Sport suspension, M Sport brakes, variable sport steering and dynamic damper control for a more engaged driving experience.
All X3 models come with a standard 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission that features shift paddles and is matched to suit the engine’s specific characteristics. BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive also comes standard and operates in a more fuel-efficient manner.
The 2018 BMW X3 will be available for purchase later this fall.
