No Good Beer? Come to Cape May Brewery

What do you do when you’re faced with no good beer? Create your own brewery, like the Cape May Brewery did.
In this spotlight, we’ll reveal how father-and-son team Bob and Ryan Krill accomplished this vital, malt-and-hops shot in the arm for South Jersey and the beach communities surrounding it.
Where’s All the Beer Down Here?
After posing this question, three guys—Ryan, Hank, and Mop Man—decided to put New Jersey, especially Cape May, on the map as a craft beer destination. Nearly 10 years ago, they found a home for their beer near the Cape May Airport and eventually delivered their first keg to Cabanas Beach Bar and Grill. Dad Bob came along for the ride.
Since that time, they’ve grown so much that their unique beers can be found throughout New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware. If you pop into a local bar, restaurant, or liquor store, you’re certain to find it on tap or available on the shelves. They hold values like “foster creativity” and “make it better” and blend them in every beer they brew and delivery they make.
At the door, behind the bar, and in-house brewing—you’ll find an interesting cast of characters who know their beer and what tantalizes the taste buds most. Coming from diverse backgrounds and many walks of life, their common goal remains to establish New Jersey as the craft-beer state.
Consistently, since 2015, they’ve earned prestigious awards, including Best of the Press from the Press of Atlantic City. They participated in the New York International Beer Competition, where their brewery was named New Jersey Ale Brewery of the Year.
Cape-Crafted, Beer-Drinker Approved
At the competition, their American-style IPA and Imperial IPA won accolades, but what really matters is beer-drinker feedback. Notable flagship beers include Cape May IPA Nitro, Coastal Evaluation, Always Ready, Devil’s Reach, and the Honey Porter and Honey Porter Nitro.
For every season, there is a beer, including favorites like Bog Cranberry Shandy, Key Lime Corrosion, Orange Crushin’ It, Mop Water 5-Spiced Ale, Oktoberfest, and Summer Catch.
Cape May Brewery creates limited/small-batch beers like Boughs of Barley Cognac and Great Wit Shark, so be sure to check those out. If you visit their Tasting Room, you’ll experience tasting-room exclusives like Watermelon Wheat and Grapefruit Crushin’ It. They hopped on the new craze, too, of producing their own line of hard seltzers with the show-stopping Watermelon flavor.
