About the Humane Society of Atlantic County
Established in 1986, the Humane Society of Atlantic County (HSAC) has long since made it their mission to improve animal welfare in Atlantic City and nearby counties. Providing full-service veterinary care, adoption, surrender, and shelter services, HSAC works tirelessly to pursue its mission.
With so many essential animal welfare services, their work is never through. Unlike many shelters, HSAC does not receive state or national funding. They rely solely on the charitable donations and volunteer work of kind-hearted individuals.
Services
The Humane Society of Atlantic County provides a variety of animal welfare services ranging from veterinary care, shelter, and adoption services.
One of HSAC’s most impactful services is their adoption program, providing homes for thousands of pets in need per year. Their shelter outreach program coordinates intake and adoptions with regional and national shelters and rescues to maximize the number of animals they can put before potential adopters. In fact, HSAC’s outreach is so far, they work with animal welfare organizations as far away as Puerto Rico.
Their adoption service pairs animals in need of a home with loving families. Those looking to adopt can visit HSAC and meet their prospective furry friend. Before adoption, they will conduct interviews, possibly perform a home check, and make sure their pet to be adopted has met any other animals they will be moving in with. All animals adopted from HSAC are spayed or neutered, de-wormed, microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies and distemper/parvo. They also offer surrender services for those no longer able to provide for their pet.
HSAC furthers its work in animal welfare, operating a full-service veterinary hospital alongside their shelter and adoption programs. Their highly-trained veterinary staff offers a comprehensive array of medical services ranging from routine veterinary care like vaccinations to surgery. They also offer digital radiology and in-house hematology.
In addition, HSAC offers spay and neuter procedures. Alongside having health and behavioral benefits for your animal, these procedures help to curb the local stray animal population, thereby lessening the number of animals euthanized annually. All procedures are performed onsite by state-licensed vets with half a century of experience between them.
